Display Form

I am interested in practical special effects; how simple, tangible materials can be used to create believable, compelling illusions, even when their methods are exposed. In Display Form a performer’s legs appear disembodied. Makeup isolates them against a black background as they reenact poses from hosiery and athletic sock displays. A staircase appears to be floating in space, providing a a platform for the performance.

Movement happens with specificity. Flexed muscles highlight the effort required to hold poses, and ascend stairs while balanced high on the balls of the feet. Occasional rogue gestures, such as toes gripping the edge of the stairs, contrast the static forms they reference.
